"Organisations say they are set to miss out on millions of dollars with the cancellation of traditional fundraising events and street campaigns due to social distancing restrictions." ~ ABC News Australia
Some charities are turning to technology to fill the gap in funding.
In this ABC.net.au article author Eliza Goetze presents a summary of the impacts the COVID 19 pandemic on charity and cause fundraising in Australia. Examples are provided for the charities Social Venture Australia, Bravehearts, and Soldier On; organizations that normally rely on event -based fundraising such as marathons and school-based programs.
To make up their funding gaps, these organizations looked to partner with local rounding app. Rounding apps allow users to allocate dollars and cents "rounded up" from purchases.
Rounding up purchases as a way to drive donations for charities has been around since 2011, when Olive founder Dave Beaton had launched ChangeIt Canada. At that time rounding required a bank or credit union to implement the service. Then in 2014 Acorns launched what some consider the first B2C rounding app using screen-scraping technology, they opened the door for charities to use third-party mobile apps as a platform for capturing donations. Today, Olive offers rounding within a suite of card-linking-as-a-service tools for organizations to embed within their existing mobile apps and portals.
For charities being impacted by the social changes and challenges being brought on by COVID 19, consider how technology could help fill the gap.
